Three days after Volkswagen CEO Matthias Müller boldly claimed, “The motorsports programs are not in danger of being dropped or significantly reduced because motorsports is very important for the group and the brands.” Audi and Porsche announce that they will not run three car squadrons at Le Mans. So the defending champions of Tandy, Bamber, and Hulkenburg will not be able to have a shot at keeping the crown.

Sucks for the drivers, but to be honest, finishing first and second is just as good as finishing first, second, and fifth. Hell, just finishing first is fine.

Defending champions wouldn’t have a chance anyway due to conflicting schedules between F1 and Le Mans. Having said that, it still does suck.

NOOOOOOO!

Audi has been fielding 3 cars since 2007. With Le Mans attrition rates 3 car squads give you the best odds of winning.

Well 2 of the 3 still had a shot.

That sucks for Bamber and Tandy since they won’t get a chance to defend the title.
I guess the silver lining is that VAG is still fielding 4 teams for the whole year. Hopefully we can say the same for the 2017 season too.

Well, THEY wont run the cars. Possible privateer teams might have an ‘agreement’

I won’t be surprised if only one team remains after 2016

Unless the privateers can pay for a new car, good luck

Sounds like they need to make the 2 cars they have that much more reliable.

Most likely it’s not related, Audi and Porsche were the only two running a third car this last year, the potential for more Manufacturer’s points most likely doesn’t offset the additional cost of the additional car.

I’m guessing that will be a rumor for the whole year like this years Audi to F1. Hate to see it happen but if money isn’t there, they'll have to do it.

Only if the privateer can pay for it on their own.

Might not have to buy the cars. Just the cost to run them.

reliability doesn’t seem to be an issue as much as traffic and damage.

Nissan had three.

The sad part is no crazy outsiders like F1 or Indy car stars will get a chance at the third car like Hulkenberg

Ah, yeah, their performance was so forgettable I completely forgot they were even at Le Mans.

Have the engineers watch a mandatory screening of Mad Max for design ideas.
